The "Green Bridge Hagen" association has received regional cultural funding from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for 2024. Partners from Lüdenscheid are also involved in the project. Details of our Hagen projects can be found here:
The goals of the "Green Bridge, e.V." association point to a different city and a different life. Ecological and economic aspects are just as relevant here as those of cultural diversity and the participation of civil society.
This year, we would like to use various projects to show green, ecological possibilities for shaping the future for a climate-resilient, more livable Altenhagen district.
Impulses for the Altenhagen district
Cultural education for sustainable development and the arts and cultural work in general play a key role as a creative source of inspiration and as a mouthpiece for a positive and aesthetic communication of climate protection measures. The cultural diversity of the citizens must also be taken into account: Since the increasing industrialization of cities, people from all over Germany and from other countries have come to Altenhagen via various routes. The cultural diversity should be reflected in the planned projects. Consistent thinking: The district of the future does not belong to any nation.
Green bridges connect people in the districts by establishing social relationships and connections between them and making the living conditions in the urban spaces tangible and changeable.
A common goal of all partners is therefore to realize the ensemble of projects by activating local residents. In our view, capturing and discussing the residents' own ideas - perhaps for the first time - is a surplus of the project.
Symphony of the District
The composer and musician Martin Verborg, who lives in Altenhagen, will develop and perform a district-related music project, a "Symphony of the District", with an ensemble of musicians. The aim is to build bridges on various levels. The starting point is the new musical setting of songs from the "Carmina Burana", which will be realized within the horizon of contemporary musical styles and instruments (including the cultures living in the district, such as Roma/Sinti; Turks and Kurds, etc.). It is intended to build bridges between the different music cultures.
Art workshop
As part of a project week, an art workshop will take place at the Altenhagen secondary school in June. The artist Clemens Weiss, who lives in New York and Hagen, and the Hagen painter Niri Irak will work with students from this educational institution, which is mainly attended by people with a migration background, to artistically reflect their view of their district. The results will be exhibited at various exhibition locations in the district, but also in the city.
Edible city Hagen
As part of the Edible City Hagen project (based on the model in Andernach), which is being promoted by Hatopia, the Hagen Sustainability Center, the Climate Alliance and many other actors, a participatory planting campaign is to be carried out in Altenhagen.
As part of a planned festival on Friedensplatz, planting elements (vertical beds, raised beds, etc.) are to be exhibited that are to be used in the long term in the Altenhagen district and in Lüdenscheid and are to be planned and designed by local residents.
Window to the world
The LUTZ, the division for young audiences at the Hagen Theater, will enrich this ensemble of projects with a street theater project that motivates people in the district to open their windows and doors and get to know each other. A scenic collage of texts, play scenes, movement choreographies and musical contributions is planned, which will be presented as part of the festival on Friedensplatz in the district.
Garden city
The concept of a garden city taken up by Osthaus failed, but should be remembered as a forward-looking impulse for the idea of a green city. The Hagen Homeland Association is trying to bring this rather forgotten tradition to mind for a different, greener city. Initially, an exhibition is planned to mark Osthaus's 150th birthday, as well as the publication (working title: Horticultural City) of a cultural history booklet by a Hagen publishing house, which aims to bring this aspect of Hagen's city history back to life.
